Despite highs in 50’s all week and two consecutive nights at 28 degrees, still some butterflies and dragonflies flying, highlighted by the stunning Variegated Meadowhawk pictured below.

I was very surprised to see this little beauty…I watched him for a few minutes on my petunias and went in to get my camera and my husband said he flew away out of the yard. We have had a few nights of very heavy frost so I was surprised to see him visit my yard. I was able to get this photo of the Autumn Meadowhawk.

Many of the nectar plants where I saw butterflies two weeks ago were pulled. We did see, but couldn’t get enough of a look at a skipper, to ID it. The Giant Spreadwing was the latest that I have ever seen this species.
