I saw Spotted Spreadwings only in one location in 2003. They were flying concurrently with the Common Spreadwing. The spots stand out if you can see the damselfly from below horizontal, which is easier, said than done! The digital camera makes it easier to take a photo like this since you can hold the camera at this level without physically having to be there. Notice that both the male and female both show the spots for which this species was given its common name.
