Dragonfly notes

I became interested in dragonflies in 2002 after butterflying with Karl Legler and others at Trempealeau NWR and seeing how much fun they had watching and talking about the dragonflies. I decided to start taking photos on July 20 that year and had taken photographs of over 30 dragonfly species by winter.

Ringed Boghunter

Say hello to this ringed boghunter.

I was actually amazed at how many dragonflies there were and how I had never even noticed them, or at least totally ignored them as I looked for plants, birds, or butterflies.

This list of dragonflies is not a complete list of all species found in Wisconsin, unlike the butterflies, damselflies, and tiger beetles. Instead, it is simply a list of the species in Wisconsin that I have been able to photograph.

For a complete listing of the dragonflies of Wisconsin, with descriptions and distribution data on the damselflies, see the Wisconsin Odonata Survey page.
