Punctured Tiger Beetle

This species is common in sandy soil throughout Waushara County. This species has been seen wherever I have looked for tiger beetles in Wisconsin, often in association with C. scutellarisand C. formosa. Most individuals of this species looked mainly black, but have the small rear maculations that I never noticed until I looked at the photos. Occasionally individuals will have obvious partial middle and front maculations as in the individual in the second photo but may have no maculations as in the bottom individual. All individuals have the two rows of distinct pits easily seen on the back of the individual in the first photo and are visible with good close-focusing binoculars in the field.

Notes: Abundant statewide; ubiquitous; June to October.
